Assisting new mothers in giving their babies a healthy start.
Evidence-based research continues to prove that breastfeeding provides countless mental, physical, societal, and emotional benefits for both mother and baby. While breastfeeding is the natural way to feed a baby, there are sometimes challenges that mothers must overcome to meet their own personal goals.
The Breastfeeding Support Program seeks to enhance the health of women, babies, and their families by working to encourage, support, promote, and protect breastfeeding while empowering women to embrace it as a social and cultural norm.
The program utilizes peer counselors, through the USDA’s Women, Infants, and Children’s Program to help provide mothers with crucial support and encouragement. The Peer Counselors have each gone through their own breastfeeding journey, live in our community, and speak both English and Spanish in order to best represent the needs of our participants. In addition to peer support and breastfeeding advice, the Breastfeeding Support program also has a variety of breastfeeding supplies and pumps that may be loaned or provided to participants as appropriate.
